How to Prevent Eye Wrinkles

How to Prevent Eye Wrinkles

Eye wrinkles are particularly common in both men and women. The skin around the eyes is thinner and more sensitive than skin on other areas of the face, and hence, more wrinkling tends to occur in this delicate area. While there is no surefire way to guarantee you will never wrinkle, there are steps you can take to help prevent eye wrinkles.

Things You'll Need
  • Sunscreen
  • Sunglasses
  • Moisturizer
  • Humidifier
  • Anti-wrinkle eye cream
Wear sunglasses. The sun is very damaging to skin as it causes premature aging and wrinkles. Sport some sunglasses to guard against the sun's harmful rays. In addition, sunglasses help you to stop quinting which causes wrinkles.

Avoid squinting or scrunching your eyes. Repeated facial movements lead to wrinkles. At first, the wrinkles will only appear when you make the movement. Over time, the wrinkles will remain there even when your face is relaxed. You can prevent these wrinkles by avoiding these damaging movements. Try not to squint or scrunch your eyes, particularly when you are concerned or upset. Check in with yourself periodically throughout the day to ensure you are not holding tension in the eye area.

Apply moisturizer to the eye area daily. Moisturizers plump up dry skin, reducing the appearance of fine lines which lead to wrinkles. Keep the eye area well-hydrated to prevent wrinkle formation.

Sleep with a humidifier. Dry air has a direct effect on the skin. A humidifier will keep the air moist, thereby helping your skin to maintain moisture levels. Regularly sleeping with a humidifier has been shown to keep skin moist and discourage fine lines.

Invest in a good anti-wrinkle eye cream. Anti-wrinkle creams for the eyes tend to be more intensive than those for the face in general. Because the eye area is more delicate, it can handle a creamier, richer cream than the rest of the face. Take care when applying the eye cream. You should pat the cream lightly on the areas. Never rub or pull the skin.

Sleep on your back. If you sleep on your stomach or side, you may be unconsciously irritating the skin around your eyes while you sleep. The pillow may be pulling or rubbing the area and encouraging wrinkle formation. It's best for your skin if you can sleep on your back with your entire face completely free from pressure from the pillow.

Be gentle on your skin. Know that the area around the eyes is very sensitive. Do not rub, scratch or press on the eye area as these movements can lead to wrinkles. Apply lotions and sunscreens gently, using your ring finger for application. As it is your weakest finger, it is the least likely to cause damage to the area.
