Tips
1. To ease emotional trauma one of the best things a person can do in the beginning is cry. Crying is a good way to release emotions that are overwhelming. Sometimes this is all you can do when you're traumatized. Don't feel as though you have to talk about it right away, it's okay to take some time for yourself and grieve in your own way.
Keep life as normal as possible by keeping commitments and staying active and don't isolate for extended periods of time. Some time alone is healthy; however, if it goes on for longer than a couple of weeks then make it a point to be more social. Visit or make calls to friends and family.
2. Talk with someone you trust when you feel like it's time. Some people feel more comfortable with a therapist others want to talk to friends or family. Emotions and feelings need to be released and talking is another form of release. It may take a while to heal from serious emotional trauma, so don't try to rush it.
Be open to help from others. When people care they will reach out to comfort you, so let them. This is a win, win don't push them away or tell them you're okay when you're really not. Denial can hinder emotional healing and receiving comfort from others is another way to heal emotions and feelings of despair.
3. Reach out to others who are worse off than you. There is always someone who has it worse. This is one way to get a totally different perspective on your situation. When you see what they're going through many times your problem doesn't seem so bad after all. Talk about fast recovery!
Pay attention to health issues such as nutrition, exercise and sleep. Don't allow stress or emotional trauma to get the upper hand. Do what you need to do to be healthy and stay that way. Traumatizing events can be draining, so we need to take extra good care of ourselves in every way we can.
4. Lastly, seek medical assistance when you suspect depression is setting in. Emotional trauma can only get the best of you if you allow it to. There is no shame in seeking professional help. A person who understands and is objective will be able to guide you in the right direction.
